A Message to Connecticut Pastors to Abolish Abortion
The Urgent Call to Abolish Abortion in Connecticut
Good afternoon. My name is Norman Harold Patterson Jr., and I am the founder and director of the Connecticut Foundation to Abolish Abortion. Today, I want to share my journey and the critical mission I’m devoted to: the immediate and total abolition of abortion in Connecticut. This is not just a political issue; it’s a matter of biblical justice and moral urgency.
A Personal Journey of Conviction
I have been a Christian for over 48 years. My faith journey began when I was about 11 or 12 years old, and over time, I felt a strong call to ministry. I earned a Bachelor’s in Philosophy from Central Connecticut State University and a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. I served as a United Methodist pastor for years before leaving due to the denomination’s departure from biblical truth.
Despite decades in ministry, I’ll admit I never once stood outside an abortion clinic, preached in the streets, or engaged in direct action to protect the unborn. I was a “professional pastor,” busy with church administration and counseling—all important roles, but I neglected the cries of our unborn neighbors. Several years ago, however, the Holy Spirit convicted me deeply. I was confronted with the harsh reality of abortion: the legalized slaughter of innocent children. That conviction brought me to tears and compelled me to act.
The Reality of Abortion
Every day in Connecticut, unborn children are poisoned, sliced, and torn apart under the guise of healthcare. With the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the responsibility to protect the unborn has fallen to individual states. Here in Connecticut, the legislature, the governor, and, most tragically, the church, have abandoned these innocent lives. It is our duty as Christians, pastors, and churches to stand up and fight for equal justice and protection for all human beings, including those in the womb.
The Biblical Mandate
The Bible is clear: every human being is created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Psalm 139:13-16 reminds us that God forms each child in the womb, and Proverbs 24:11-12 commands us to “deliver those who are drawn unto death.” To remain silent in the face of abortion is sin (James 4:17). Jesus himself warned of the severe judgment awaiting those who harm “little ones” (Matthew 18:6).
Abortion vs. Abolition
The pro-life movement has failed to address the root of the issue. By advocating for incremental measures like heartbeat bills and regulations, they compromise with evil. True abolition, modeled after the abolition of slavery, demands the immediate and total eradication of abortion without compromise. It requires equal justice and protection under the law for all human beings from the moment of fertilization.
The Role of the Church
During the time of slavery, many pastors stayed silent, and history judges them harshly. The same is true for Christians and churches today regarding abortion. Silence is complicity. Complacency is complicity. Pastors, you are called to lead your congregations in standing boldly for truth. Churches, you must move beyond sanctity-of-life Sundays and occasional prayers. God’s judgment looms over those who refuse to act.
Join the Movement
The Connecticut Foundation to Abolish Abortion is calling all pastors, Christians, and churches to join us in this urgent fight. Our mission is simple yet profound: to abolish abortion in Connecticut. This is a grassroots effort involving education, activism, and legislation. We’ve already drafted an abolition bill and are working to refine it and find sponsors. Abortion may not be abolished this year, next year, or even in the next decade, but we must start now.
A Final Challenge
Imagine a Connecticut where every child is protected and God’s justice reigns. Imagine standing before God, knowing you fought for the voiceless and upheld his truth. Now imagine the alternative: standing before the judgment seat of Christ, knowing you did nothing. Pastors, Christians, churches—the time to act is now. Join the Connecticut Foundation to Abolish Abortion today. Visit [www.abolishabortionct.org](http://www.abolishabortionct.org) for more information, or contact me directly. Together, we can end the bloodshed and glorify God in our state.
To God be the glory.
